Because MyTVGuide is sideloaded (not from the Play Store), it can't silently auto-update in the background the way a store app does — but it can download and install a new version for you with a couple of button presses, no Downloader app needed.
- 1Settings → “Check for Updates” any time you want to check on demand.
- 2If you're signed into a trial or paid account, the app also checks quietly in the background and shows a small “MyTVGuide X.X.X is available” notice — “Update now” right there does the same thing as the Settings button.
- 3Either way: choosing to update downloads the new version with a progress bar, then hands off to Android's own install screen for one final confirmation tap.
Note:First time only, Android may show an “Allow installing unknown apps” screen for MyTVGuide — turn that on and try the update again. This is normal for any app installed outside the Play Store and only needs to be granted once.
Note:If the in-app update ever fails (no space, a network hiccup), the old Downloader method in “Install MyTVGuide on your Android TV box” still works exactly the same as a fresh install — it won't affect your settings, favorites or connections either way.
